"Education is the only thing that can help someone to live, understand and manage the world around him/her."
Meet Godfrey! Godfrey is a maths, science and geography teacher from Grovedale. He is passionate about making education more accessible to students through flexible learning options!
1. What inspired or interested you about teaching?
I was inspired by my father and later during my secondary education, when I was volunteering to assist others in understanding study tasks that they did not understand during normal class hours.
2. How will you connect with your students?
In 2003, I worked as an informal teacher and counselor in primary and secondary setups which were different from the formal ways in schools. For example, being flexible with learning areas like sitting on the floor, table, outdoor or anywhere else safe where a student feels comfortable to study can help to fit students social setup needs.
3. Why are you interested in the subjects that you will be teaching?
I know the subject content very well- I am applying it in the work and other studies that am doing now.
4. How do you learn best?
I learn best by asking questions and always seeking clarification when I encounter difficulties in studying.
I also do not miss any scheduled classes or seminars as for me, lectures are the best way for me to improve my understanding and ask questions about things I did not understand while reading.
5. Why is education something that you value? What is one of the most significant things you've learned during your own education?
First, I am in Australia only for education. Education is the only thing that can help someone to live, understand and manage the world around him/her.
The most significant thing about education is when you get a good teacher, you end up understanding the subject and falling in love with the subject while taking it further.
6. What is your vision for the future? What are you passionate about?
The future is full of unknown discoveries.
I am passionate about being open minded and learning additional skills as much as I can.
7. If you could make any changes to the education system in Australia, what would they be?
Improving on the existing ways of teaching through introducing more informal ways of engaging students.
8. Tell us a fun/interesting fact about yourself!
When I attend lectures and I feel sleepy or bored, I normally turn into my exercise book and start sketching the tutor. This will keep me active and awake till end!
